Bankruptcy Myths on New York’s CBS News

If you’re considering filing for bankruptcy in New York, this news report by New York’s CBS News is worth a quick watch.

Though interestingly, towards the end of the report reporter Kirstin Cole rightfully point out to be wary of debt settlement companies.  However, at the very end the anchor seemingly contradicts Cole by instructing viewers with debt problems to go to wcbstv.com where they’ll “help you connect to a non-profit, no-fee organization where they can help you manage your debt.”  Aside from the fact that I couldn’t find any such link on the site, the description seems to indicate that they have some sort of link-up with a debt counseling company.  As I’ve pointed out in previous posts here and here, debt settlement companies and debt management companies are generally not good options for people.  So be careful.
